Grundon, the UK’s largest family-owned supplier of integrated waste management and environmental services, wanted to make the most of their levy funds – so they turned to our Level 4 Sales Executive Apprenticeship.
Grundon has been around since 1929, but they remain a key innovator in the industry, continually adapting and progressing.
Learning and Development Manager Mark Gaden shares how BMS Progress’ Level 4 Sales Executive Apprenticeship Standard has been ‘gold dust’ to their business.
Wary that the apprenticeship would require off-the-job training (accounting for 20% of a learner’s time), I was keen to find a solution that would use this time to add value to the role.
Salespeople are achievement-based and are always hungry for the next challenge, so we needed to ensure we could develop them and provide the opportunity to share ideas and make an impact.
We wanted the training to fit the role rather than the job fitting the Apprenticeship Standard. So, we were pleased that BMS provided bespoke training that we could shape to
Everyone enrolling on the apprenticeship can relate to all the core ingredients of the sales role – like features, benefits, opening, negotiation, and closing a sale. We were blown away by the scope and depth of the content.
Development coaches met with the learners before the first module, helping to understand the mechanics of the apprenticeship. They’d also follow up after workshops – which I think is gold standard best practice.
There’s an administrative side to the programme, and the system was positively received – especially as some providers are still using spreadsheets.
The apprenticeship training has resulted in a great calibre of salespeople who have the energy, drive, and level of professionalism to thrive.
BMS Progress tapped into significant knowledge and best practices. They helped us benchmark our process to make sure we’re doing things the right way and determine if there’s anything more we can do so we can give learners the best possible experience.
We had a big focus on getting a good return on our investment from the Apprenticeship Levy – if you don’t use the funds, you lose them. But we needed to ensure we utilised them well. The Level 4 Sales Executive Apprenticeship Standard helps us to stand out in the recruitment market, whilst also retaining and developing our existing employees.
