Leading electrical wholesaler, Edmundson Electrical, reached out to BMS Progress to help their graduate salespeople acquire the skills and knowledge to develop and succeed. Our commercial training was the solution.

Edmundson Electrical is the largest electrical wholesaler in the UK, with a turnover of more than £1.7 billion. They work in the B2B space, and distribute a range of top-branded products.

Their Head of Training and Development, Matt Ward, sought support with improving their graduates’ foundation selling skills, and account management and negotiation abilities. In this case study, he shares how our programme helped them to deliver on their objectives.

To us, our people are our most valuable asset, therefore training and development is key. As a result, we had particular goals in mind for the programme:

Differentiate ourselves in the market

ur training needs to differentiate our staff and our business. It should give them the necessary skills, knowledge, entrepreneurial flair, and build their confidence. Continuously investing in training drives the business forward, future proofs it, and increases our competitive advantage.

Create successful salespeople

The training also needed to be fit for junior-level graduates just embarking on their sales careers. They should be equipped with the essential skills that allow them to build good relationships with customers, and ultimately achieve profitable sales.

Understand our business

For us to go ahead with the professional sales training programme, it was crucial that the provider understood our business, our needs, and the marketplace. We were happy that BMS Progress took the time to gain this knowledge.

Deliver a bespoke solution

Our training provider needed to adapt to different locations and formats. As we have a national presence, training must be delivered at a more localised basis as and when required. We were pleased that BMS Progress built and delivered a dedicated syllabus for us.

The Result

Since April 2022, BMS Progress has trained over 100 of our graduate professionals. Plus, more than 500 employees across the business have received some sort of training from them. We’ve had fantastic feedback from learners. The high-calibre trainers had a great level of knowledge and experience, and helped the delegates to develop the right skills. They also made the training fun and engaging.

Relevant education

BMS Progress delivered quality, and relevant, training that aligns with the learners’ jobs. It goes into sufficient detail and really connects with the learner.

Personal approach

Delegates said they appreciated how the trainers build a rapport and personal relationship with them. They feel that they understand them, are supportive, and know what their job entails and the training objectives.

Evolving relationship

We’ve forged a long-term partnership with BMS Progress that revolves around collaboration and communication.
