Ensuring successful promotions for salespeople

Bostik, a market leader in adhesive technologies, called upon our Level 4 Sales Executive Apprenticeship to ensure their sales team had the right capabilities and know-how.

Bostik

Bostik leads in adhesive sealant manufacturing, covering industries ranging from construction to medical. In 2019, they explored how to improve their sales teams’ knowledge, skills and behaviour – in their current position, or a role they wished to progress to. They also wanted to maximise on the apprenticeship levy, and when BMS Progress got in touch, a partnership soon began.

In this case study, Sales Apprentice Chris Ansermoz talks about his experience with the Level 4 Sales Apprenticeship through BMS Progress. His Development Coach, Sarah Jones, also reveals how the programme led to two promotions for Chris.

"For the duration of his sales apprenticeship, Chris demonstrated an excellent attitude towards learning and progression. His work was of a consistently high standard and always linked back to how he has applied the knowledge to his job and to the wider business. And so, it’s no surprise that his hard work and attitude has led to a promotion to Key Account Manager. A massive thanks to Chris for being a great apprentice!"

BMS Progress - The challenge

The Objectives

Having worked in sales for a number of years, I was hesitant about doing an apprenticeship. But I also realised that there was a chance for me to benefit:

More opportunities

I’m a firm believer in knowledge. I wanted to progress further within Bostik, and I knew the best way to do that was to gain experience through dedicated learning.

New knowledge and skills

Although I was concerned that the apprenticeship would cover old ground, I was keen to gain new expertise and capabilities in sales. Nothing stays the same forever, after all.

BMS Progress - The solution

The Solution

I started the apprenticeship at the beginning of March 2020, and the first meeting was in person. A couple of weeks later, we were in lockdown. Learning switched to online so it was a completely different experience – but BMS Progress adapted successfully:

High-level training

All lessons, training and workshops took place over microsoft teams. The process worked exceptionally well, especially given the circumstances we were under.

Full support network

Sarah was my development coach, and my first port of call for any help and advice around training. This extended beyond the apprenticeship too – even for a personal matter, she would be there to support me at the drop of a hat.

BMS Progress - The result

The Result

I really enjoyed the course and have taken so much from it. It was an extremely positive experience, and since then I’ve gained:

Two successful promotions

The apprenticeship helped me to get promoted twice. First from Area Sales Manager to Key Account Support, then to Key Account Manager.

An enhanced skill set

My presentations have improved – I look more at how the customer is sitting and how they’re reacting to proposals. Plus, I now plan my day, week and month better than I’ve done in the last 15 years!

An appetite for training

As I found the level 4 sales executive apprenticeship so valuable, I’m planning to undertake the level 5 course to further my knowledge and capabilities in sales.
